Costume Dept: Feisty leggings
While black leggings with high heels may feel a little '06/'07, Costume Dept's amped-up graphic print leggings are very much of the moment. Priced at around $35, their chain print designs inject Donatella brass in to any disco look, daytime or evening, as do their many metallic American Apparel-style numbers. Shy types may prefer less in-yer-face designs like the Nude Mermaid ($45), Spotted Silk ($79) or the beautiful Japanese Flower ($75).
The line was launched in March by Shaun Samson (who works for designer Jeremy Scott) and Shawn Kaleka, who went through med school only to realize leggings were his true calling. True story.
Costume Dept makes its leggings using random fabrics sourced in Downtown L.A.'s garment district, meaning that once a design is discontinued, it probably ain't coming back. New designs appear on the site each month.
