Poetic genius: Tord Boontje

With his "The Little Wild Garden of Love", "Fig Leaf Wardrobe", "Witches' Kitchen", and "Rain Collection", Dutch design star Tord Boontje creates divinely decorative accents for home and garden that sound like they could be poems.
The designer himself is making a very special U.S. appearance this Friday October 10 at lifestyle store Artecnica's new L.A. showroom from 6-9 p.m.
Former WWD West Coast bureau chief Rose Apodaca alerted me to this event, noting in her email blast that Boontje "is widely hailed as returning a decorative, even maximalist aesthetic to modernism, with his whimsical range of lighting, tableware, home accessories and small furnishings."
A 6 p.m., Tord and Artecnica co-founder Enrico Bressan will share their methodology and manufacturing processes with an intimate look at their many best-selling collaborations and many never-seen prototypes. And at 7 p.m., the party begins. Besides an auction featuring products made under Artecnica's guidance by the kids from the L.A.'s Best After School Program, Apodaca's A+R design store will have a pop-up in Bressan's studio.
