MTV VMAs: The awards cermony that style forgot
The MTV VMAs descended deep in to Machiavellian farce with Britney sweeping the boards as part of a clearly manufactured "come-back"...and don't even get me started on the hair. While last year's VMAs saw Britney ridiculed for her lackluster performance and poor parenting skills, this year, the VMA Gods decided it was time for the underdog to win. Pfff.
"If there was a female Christ, it's Britney," prattled Russell Brand, the British comedian host. Um, no.
Spears, a 16 times VMA nominee before winning three awards Sunday night, predictably thanked "God, first and foremost, for just blessing me like this". We think she should thank her agent and the puppet masters at MTV.
Most of the artists who were lauded at last night's VMA specialize in terrible M.O.R. pop music, but still--the whole tasteless affair could have been rescued from the depths of pointlessness had there at least been some good style in the house.
Denied!

While there were some decent looking gowns on the red carpet, the majority were teamed with embarrassingly bad "Extreme Mermaid" hair dos.Britney herself, wearing Versace, looked like a mentally-deficient Rapunzel. Christina Aguilera aged herself 20 years with harsh peroxide bangs. Lindsay Lohan pulled off a convincing Carmen Electra impression, with long Playboy Mansion honey blond extensions (her House of Holland dress was passable). And what was up with Ashley Tisdale's "Knott's Landing" soccer mom 'do? Way too much volume at the crown, girl!
What's most troubling is that these images are beamed to impressionable young teenagers around the world. Hollywood, is this really the best you can do?
